A quick question.
I know comummunities have a maintainer (im the maintainer of mine....its true, its called queer_as_fics so please join and post all your awesome fics there or even recommend fics for my memebers)

Sorry,I got of track there,my question is.....what does a moderater do for a community, mine only has a maintainer (me) so will I need a moderater too?
Heres a pic of who I feel I am tonight lol,im just so damn tired.

I'm a moderator of a Yahoo group until the other person is back on line. What I do is the same thing as a maintainer. I watch to see if the stories are appropriate for the site and if they are not I tell that person in a private post that they should read the rules and regulations of the site. You can set those up in the Community Post. You can do the same thing with flamers who write bad reviews of stories.

I don't think you need a moderator since we do the same job. If you want another maitainer besides yourself, you can do that. I don't know how to do that in LJ. Ask wildsweet_angel. They have 4 maintainers on the qaf_friends site.

I hope this is helpful.

I could never imagine humiliating someone in a post by telling them something bad about thier fic,I would take down all bad remarks too.

Thanks,Vonnie x

In most communities Vonnie in LJ, maintainers and Moderaters do the same thing and can call themselves either one. In the LJ's that I mod, we are all called moderaters, not maintainers. But there can be some communities that have maintainers to do maintainence such as tags, banners, etc and maintain things in the community and a moderator or 2 that do posts and come in to make a mod post about something if needed.

Does this make sense? So you can call yourself either or both names and you do not have to have a "moderater" if you are both and calling yourself a maintaner

Moderator/Maintainer is basically the same thing I think Yvonne. As your community is just for one thing, as in posting fics, you should be able to do what is needed to keep it running smoothly. The only reason you may want another moderator is if you should lose net access or not be able to access LJ for some reason. It would mean someone else could keep an eye on your community.

Ummm,that sounds like a plan,

I may have to look into finding someone as my computer isn't always reliable.

Pat and Foreverbm are both correct. In addition, the mods/maintainers set the rules for the community. What can and can not be posted, is wank unacceptable, and if that's the case will you take responsibility for deleting inappropriate comments, etc.

The mod/maintainers keep order. It's best to have another mod help out in case you're away or unavailable and should a question arise.

You'll be great!
